In the US, logos are protected under trademark law, not copyright
law. This means that the owner of the logo needs to enforce its correct
use to retain the rights to the logo. The Open Hardware Definition is a
great metric for this. To make use of it official, we could update the
"OSHW Logo Selected!" post with a statement to the effect of "This logo
should be used to mark hardware or hardware designs, as well as
documents referring to such hardware, that meet the requirements of the
'Open Source Hardware (OSHW) Definition' posted at
http://freedomdefined.org/OSHW". Eventually, we may also want to make
some usage guidelines like these:
http://www.opensource.org/logo-usage-guidelines.

Good thinking. I think cc-by+sa is best. The best place to share
derivatives and continue this discussion Is probably the definition
forum on the openhardwaresummit site, we'll see what we can do about
attachments etc.
This is exciting stuff! Lots of buzz around this, and people are very
energetic, thanks all!
